About This Blog
Alex. The guy who tests the gear so you don’t waste the money.
7 years. 34 countries. Hundreds of hours testing portable monitors, travel tech, and remote work setups from cafes, coworking spaces, and Airbnbs around the world.
The Real Story
I didn’t start this blog to inspire you. I started it because I kept making expensive mistakes.
In 2019, I quit my job in finance, bought a one-way ticket to Lisbon, and thought I had it figured out. I had a MacBook. A coffee shop. A “plan.”
What I didn’t have: a portable monitor that actually worked. A charger that didn’t fry in a Portuguese outlet. A backpack that didn’t destroy my spine after 6 months.
I burned through $2,000 in bad gear in my first year. Cheap monitors that flickered. USB-C hubs that couldn’t power my laptop. “Travel-friendly” keyboards that fell apart in Bangkok humidity.
“Every bad purchase was money I couldn’t spend on rent in Bali, a flight to Georgia, or six months in Mexico. Bad gear isn’t just annoying. It’s expensive.”
So I started testing everything obsessively. Keeping notes. Comparing specs. Running the actual numbers on what works and what’s marketing fluff.
That’s what this blog is. The notes I wish I had on day one.
Where I’ve Worked From
Not a travel blog. But context matters. Here’s where most of the testing happened:
Different power grids. Different WiFi speeds. Different humidity levels destroying different keyboards. Every location taught me something new about what gear actually survives the road.
What I Actually Use
I only write about gear I’ve personally tested. Current setup as of 2026:
- MacBook Pro M3 Pro 14″
- ASUS ZenScreen MB16QHG
- Anker 737 Power Bank 140W
- Sony WH-1000XM5
- Roost V3 Laptop Stand
- Ugreen 65W GaN Charger
- Peak Design Tech Pouch
- Keychron K3 Low Profile
Every product on this site has an Amazon link. If you buy through it, I earn a small commission. It costs you nothing extra and keeps this blog running. I never recommend something I wouldn’t buy again myself.
